Introduction

The SEZ Act, 2005, supported by SEZ Rules, came into effect on 10th February, 2006, providing for drastic simplification of procedures and for single window clearance on matters relating to central as well as state governments.

The SEZ Rules provide for:
       i.   Simplified procedures for development, operation, and maintenance of the Special Economic Zones and for setting up units and conducting business in SEZs;
       ii.   Single window clearance for setting up of an SEZ;
       iii.   Single window clearance for setting up a unit in a Special Economic Zone;
       iv.   Single Window clearance on matters relating to Central as well as State Govts.;
       v.   Simplified compliance procedures and documentation with an emphasis on self certification.

Rajasthan’s proximity to the IGI International Airport, New Delhi and Various ports of western coast, makes it an ideal location for export oriented industrial development on a large scale. Moreover, 40% of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is passing through Rajasthan throwing up enormous possibilities for development of Industrial Belts such as Special Economic Zones in the vicinity of corridor.

Special Economic Zone Sitapura, Jaipur has been set up with an objective to initiate infrastructural development and a hassle-free environment best suited for export trade with a primary focus in the fields of gems and jewelry. However, in 2019, it has been deemed as Multi-product SEZ. SEZ, Sitapura is under the jurisdiction of Noida Special Economic Zone headed by the Development Commissioner.

SEZ, Sitapura, Jaipur has been developed by Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Industrial Corporation (RIICO) in two phases namely Sitapura, SEZ-I & Sitapura SEZ-2. Both phases are spread over 110.89 Acres. Since the medieval period, Jaipur has been hub of Gems & Jewellery manufacturing. The SEZ is a secure bonded zone with state of the art infrastructure, uninterrupted power supply, expeditious clearances and online application for allotment of land.

The Special Economic Zone, Sitapura, Jaipur was planned for specific sector i.e. Gem & Jewellery only. Land of SEZ was in possession of the Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Industrial Corporation who is the developer of this SEZ. It is situated in Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur.

The SEZ Phase-I, Sitapura, Jaipur was specified by the Central Government as “Special Economic Zone” under section 76A of the Customs Act 1962 vide Notification No 60/2003-Customs (N.T.) dated.1.8.2003 amended vide Notification No 60/2004-Custom (N.T.) dated 30.4.2004 The Commissioner of Customs, Jaipur has notified the same as “Customs Bonded Area” under Section 8 of the Customs Act, 1962 vide Notification No 01/2003-Customs (N.T.) dated 18.9.2003.

The SEZ Phase-II, Sitapura, Jaipur was specified by the Central government as “Special Economic Zone” under section 76 A of the Customs Act, 1962 vide Notification No 112/2004-Customs (N.T.) dated 18.10.2004. The Commissioner of Customs, Jaipur has notified the same as “Customs Bonded Area” under section 8 of the Customs Act,1962 vide Notification No 01/2005-Customs (N.T.) dated 13.5.2005

ALLOTMENT & ACTIVITES: 193 plots out of 241 Plots in both zones have been allotted till date. Most of the units have started their production activities out of them 146 units are under production.
